| Field notes | Stems cespitose, but only one stem developed and with 2-3 shoots, 8-11 m tall, 5-7 cm diam at base, ca 3 cm diam at apex, grayish, slightly fissured longitudinally. Leaves 9-12, spreading, arched; sheaths forming a crownshaft, 48-65 cm long, green with a brownish tomentum toward apex; petiole 20-35 cm long, green, (petiole and rachis red in young plants), flattened above, rounded below; rachis112-145 cm long, flattened above for a short distance; pinnae 48-69 on each side, almost pendulous, making a roof shape. Inflorescence infrafoliar, light green, with immature fruits. Eophylls pinnate. Common names "palma palanca, guayaquil". The trunks are used as poles.
