| Field notes | Cultivated. Solitary palm about 2.5 m tall. Stem diam. about 20 cm. Number of leaves in crown about 50. Leaf base and sheath fibrous, dark brown. Petiole triangular in cross section, red abaxally on old leaves (young leaves only has a narrow red stripe). Covered with small scales and armed along the margins with almost straight spines up to 1 cm long. Lamina 70 cm long, regurlarly divided into single fold segments. Folds divided at the tip into 10-15 cm long hanging laciniae. |
