| Field notes | Solitary palm, about 2 m tall. Stem covered with persistent leaf bases. Crown consisting of ca. 40 leaves, leaf base and sheath fibrous. Petiole 170 cm long, triangular in cross section, dark green with yellow stripes longitudally. Margins fiercely armed with long grey spines. Lamina divided into severalfold compound segments by deep splits almost reaching the base. Further divided by shallower splits into singlefold segments. Each fold is split into two 4-7 cm stiff laciniae. Radius of blade 77-80 cm at the outer fold and 114-115 at the middle fold. |
