| Field notes | Terrestrial herb up to 2 m; rhizome short, clustered; leaves clustered at top, first leaf aat 1.3 m; 8-10 leaves per shoot; diameter at base 5 cm gradually decreasing to 2 cm; sheath yellowish at base, pale gren to the top; ligule membranous, bi-lobed, fallen off, not persistent, short lasting; petiole 5 cm, uneven base, lamina plicate, plain green, dull pale below, pubescent, almost corrugated, infructescense araising from roots; peduncle 6-11 cm, bractless, pale green, no persistent bracts in inflorescenses, infructescense 5 cm, globular up to 9x7 mm; fruits winged irregularly, immature, yellow green, remnants of calyx persistent. Vernacular name: Sãsiric (Kâte language); the fruits are edible by bandicoots, the inner part of the young shoot is scrapped and applied externally on knee aches. (Spirit Material) |
