| Field notes | Terristrial herb. Rhizome long-creeping, subterranean, to 7 mm diam., reddish to whitish. Leafy shoot 1.1-1.65 cm long with up to 19 leaves; base 2-(3) cm diam.; sheath reticulate; ligule to 7 mm long, entire, sometimes slightly emargiante or splitting at apex, ± pubescent; petiole to 1.5 cm long; lamina narrowly obovate, to 44 x 9.5 cm, smooth, glabrous, dull mid-green. Rhizome and base with a distinct smell of aniseed when cut. Local name informed by Sen Sem at Village 1 (Kmer language): kro kor (generic name for all Amomum); Kro kor kra op (kra op means fragrant). Local name informed by Meas Savoeurn consulting five village men at Tatle Leu Cham Kacheak commune (Kmer language): kao kin, ko ko kan / ko ko ka kan. Used to make a drink boiling the rhizome and lower shoot in water, kravanh [Amomum] and sugar for bad stomach, sore throat or as a tonic. Also used for cooking in soups. Both informants said the flowers are red and that the plant is harvested directly in the forest, not cultivated nor sold in the market. DNA sampled. Photographed. |
