| Field notes | Terrestia herb. Leafy shoots 6-15 cm apart, to 2.1 m long. Base to 2 cm diam., brown. Sheath yellow green. Ligule to 3 mm long. Petiole to 6 mm long with basal callus. Lamina to 34x5 cm, mid-green; pale green beneath. Inflorescence radical, to 10 cm long. Peduncle to 5 cm long with yellowish cream bracts. Spike loose, to 5x2 cm. Fertile bract pale yellow-green. Bracteole membranous pale yellow-green. Ovar and calyx pale yellow-green. Corolla tube pale red; lobes pale yellow-green. Staminal tube pale pink. Labellum white with yellow-green centre, pale red at base. Filament pale pink. Anther pale yellow-green. Stigma pale yellow-green. Infrutescence with 15 fruits; head 5x4 cm, pedicel to 1 cm long, fruit pale red. Taste of centre of lower leafy shoot: bitter pine-like. Material in spirit. DNA sampled. |
