Field notes Terrestial herb in spreading clump. Leafy shoot to 40 cm apart, to 4.5 m long. Base to 6 cm diam. Sheath reticulate, green. Ligule to 1.2 cm long. Petiole to 3 cm long. Lamina to 60 x 13 cm, dark green, young leaf tinged reddish brown beneath; base truncate or rounded. Inflorescence from rhizome. Peduncle to 6 cm long with pale pink bracts. Spike to 8 x 3 cm, bracts pale brownish green with pale red margin. Bracteole pale pink. Calyx cream with pale pink apex. Corolla tube cream to very pale pink. Staminal tube pale pink. Labellum pink, upper margin pale pink. Stamen, style and stigma pale pink. Vernacular name: toput (Buol language) no uses. aAste of centre of lower leafy shoot: very bitter. Material in spirit. DNA sampled.
