Field notes Terrestrial herb in dense clump. Leafy shoot to 4.8 m long. Base to 9.5 cm diam., red. Sheath orange-brown, to green at top. Ligule 3.5 cm, yellowish brown, pubescent. Petiole to 5 cm long, winged, yellow-green, with basal callus. Lamina to 115 x 25 cm, plicate, mid.green, base +/- oblique. Inflorescence terminal, erect, 1 m long. Peduncle 50 cm long with 3 bracts that have dried brown. Spike to 50 x 10 cm, secund. bracteole yellow-green. Corolla cream; lobes yellow-green at apex. Labellum and stamen cream. fruit globose, 2 x 1.8 cm, green. Vernacular name: olae (Tolaki language); rhizome used to cure internal disease.
