| Field notes | Terrestrial herb. Rhizome ascending on stilt roots (red when young) to 30 cm above the ground; rhizome scales greenish pink when young. Leafy shoots 5 - 10 cm apart, to c. 1.7 m long. Base to 1.7 cm diam. Sheath pale yellow green. Ligule to 11 mm long. Petiole ca. 1 mm long. Lamina to 30 x 3.5, tinged pink beneath when young; margin undulating; apex long and twisted. Inflorescence from rhizome, 6 - 8 x 0.7 - 1 cm, erect, cylindrical, with 2-3 flowers only. Bracts dark brown, upper red. Fertile bract transparent red, pale in lower 40 %. Bracteole and calyx membranous, pink. Corolla tube pale pink; lobes darker towards apex. Staminal tube pale pink. Labellum pink. Filament pale pink. Anther and stigma white. Fruit enclosed by bracts, cream with red apex. |
