| Field notes | Terrestrial herb. Leafy shoot to 4 m long. Base to 9.5 cm diam., dark purple. Sheath pale brownish with dark purple dots. Ligule to 2.5 cm long, dark purple, pubescent. Lamina to 130 x 14 cm, dark green, undulating, not plicate. lnflorescence terminal, erect, to 90 cm long; bracts to 50 cm long, drying brown; spike to 80 cm long, secund or with a narrow open ‘alley' on one side of the inflorescence; axis brownish, pubescent. Pedicel pale brown. Bracteole reddish brown (when fresh). Ovary dark green, ridged. Calyx reddish brown. Corolla tube creamish; lobes reddish brown. Labellum cream. Stamen cream. Stigma pink.
