| Field notes | Terrestial herb in dense clump. Rhizome scales pale yellowish brown to pale red when young. Leafy shoots 6-12 cm apart. Leafy shoot 3.7 - 6.2 m long when plant is flowering. Base to 6 cm diam., pale red when young. Sheath pale yellow-green, pale red when young. Ligule 2.5 - 3 cm long, pale yellow-green to brown, pale red when young, margin ciliate. Petiole to 3.2 cm long. Lamina to 76 x 16 or 85 x 19 cm, narrowly ovate mid-green, not plicate, base oblique, slightly cordate, apex acute, asymmetric, margin red. Inflorescence from base, pedumcle 4-12 cm long, subterranean, peduncular bracts pale brownish. Spike 5 x 6 cm (bracts only), cup-shaped. Receptacle 1.7-3.5 cm, longest in infrutescence. Bract pale yellow-green. Flowers extending to 3 cm above bracts, erect when fresh, curving outwards when old (from the day before), 2 - 12 flowers open at a time. Fertile bract spathulate, pale yellow-green, brownish towards apex. Bracteole pale yellowish brown with brownish apex. Calyx cream, apex slightly pink. Corolla tube slightly pink; lobes cream at apex. Staminal tube pale pink. Labellum cream with pink margin; lateral lobes involute. Filament pale pink at base, cream at apex. Stamen cream at base, pale pink in upper 3/4. Stigma pale pink. Infrutescence subglobose to ovoid, peduncle to 11 cm, head to 15 x 16 cm incl. calyx otherwise 10 x 12 cm. Fruit reddish.
