| Field notes | Terrestial herb. Leafy shoots to 4.3 m long, on red stilt shoot reddish. Sheath yellowish green. Ligule to 2 cm long, caducous, densely silky-hairy. Lamina sessile, to 55 x 17 cm, narrowly ovate, slightly plicate, dark green above, beneath pale green or tinged pinkish red, densely pubescent. Inflorescence from base. Peduncle horizontal - ascending, to 23 cm long. Receptacle to 14 cm long. Spike narrowly ovoid, to 17 x 8 cm; in young inflorescence spike only 5 x 4 cm. Peduncular bracts pale red, drying dark brown. Fertile bracts pale yellowish green, margin burgundy-red. Bracteole transparent, apex red. Calyx cream, apex faintly pink. Corolla cream, lobes yellowish white. Labellum yellow. Stamen and stigma white. Fruit 1.8 x 1.4 cm, cream to pale yellowish green, ovoid. Taste of centre of leaf base: similar to Etlingera elatior.
