| Field notes | Terrestial herb in dense clump. Leafy shoot to 3 m long. Base to 4 cm diam., red, on stilt roots. Lower sheath and leaves drying. Ligule 26 mm long. Petiole to 8 cm long. Lamina to 80 x 12 cm, mid-green, not plicate. Inflorescence terminal, erect, c. 30 x 35 cm, with 4 branches. rachis red when young. Bracteole pale red to pale yellow-green. Calyx pale yellow-gree to cream. Corolla tube pale yellow-green. Lobes cream, dorsal with red apex. Labellum dark purple to black. Stamen cream, tinged red below apex. Stigma pink. Fruit 20 x 14 mm, dark red. Vernacular name: konchemer (Kalam language); leaves used for mumu. |
