| Field notes | Terrestrial herb. Rhizome creeping (40-50 cm between neighbouring shoots.) Leafy shoot to 2.5 m long. Base to 5.5 cm diam., pale brown, deeply reticulate. Sheath pale brown, reticulate. Ligule to 8 mm long, entire, brownish, pubescent. Lamina to 60x16 cm mid-green. Inflorescence from rhizome, to 14 cm long. Peduncle to 5 cm long, scales pale brown. Spike to 9x2.8 cm, pale creamish brown, apex to 1.5 cm wide, not containing water. Fertile bract membranous, cream, purple in lower half. Bracteole membranous, cream, purple in liwer half. Calyx pale pink. Corolla tube pale pink at base. Lobes red. Labellum plain orange-yellow. Filament pale red. Anther burgundy. Style white. Stigma red (not dark).
