| Field notes | Terrestial herb in clump (10-20 cm between neighbouring shoots). Leafy shoot to 5 m long. Base of leafy shoot to 6 cm diam., brown. Sheath pale green. Ligule to 10 mm long, pubescent. Lamina 80 x 15 cm, mid-green. Beneath pale green and pubescent. Inflorescence from rhizome. Spike to 12 x 4 cm, tenuiforme. Bracts white, margin red. Flowers red. Fertile bract pale pink, membranous, +/- mucilagenous. Bracteole lateral, pale pink membranous. Calyx red. Corolla tube white in lower 4/5, brilliant red in upper part and lobes. Labellum red with cream margin. Stamen cream to pale red at apex and crest. Stylepale red. Stigma cream. Fruit to 30 x 13 mm, pale greenish cream. Seed black.
