Field notes Terrestial herb with 4 shoot in clump (15-20 cm between neitghbouring shoots). Leafy shoot to 4.5 m long. Base of leafy shoot to 3.5 cm diam., red. Sheath green. Ligule to 13 mm long. Petiole to 15 mm long. Lamina to 77x7.5 cm, pubescent on both sides. Inflorescence from base. Peduncle to 9 cmlong, subterranean, scales brown. Spike 3x4 cm, bracts greenish brown. Fertile bract pale brown and golden at base. Brateole pale brown. Calyx cream, pale brown at apex. Corolla tube cream, olobes pale red at apex (5 mm). Staminal tube white. Labellum white, tinged pink. Stamen and stigma white. Hairs at apex of thecae seems to be pushing pollen out. Taste of centre of leafy shoot base: turpentine, pine. Material in spirit. DNA sampled.
