| Field notes | Terrestial herb in clump (< 10 cm between shoots), +/- stilt-rooted, stilt roots red. Leafy shoot 3.1 m long. Base of leafy shoot to 4 cm diam., reddish. Sheath yellow green. Ligule to 15 mm long, purple. Lamina to 55 x 15 cm. Inflorescence from rhizome, 1-2 flowers open at a time. Peduncle to 13 cm long. Spike ovoid, 6-8 x 5.5 cm, mucilagenous. Bracts reddish brown. Receptacle 3 cm long. Fertile bract creamish yellow, apex brown. Bracteole transparent, apex brownish. Calyx and corolla (incl. lobes) white. Labellum pale yellow, margin white, centre yellow. Stamen and stigma white. Young fruits hidden by persistent bracts, to 15 x 13 mm, pale pink. Vernaculalr name: ketimpang (Bugis language). Material in spirit. DNA sampled. |
