Field notes Terrestial herb in clump (to 10 cm between neighbouring leafy shoots). Leafy shoot to 4 m long. Base of leafy shoot to 6 cm diam., red. Sheath dark pruple. Ligule to 3 mm long, truncate. Lamina sessile, to 83x13 cm, mid-green, not plicate, midrib purple; beneath pale green and pubescent; base cordate and clasping the pseudostem. Inflorescence from rhizome, peduncle subterranean, to 20 cm long, ascending, pale greenish red, dark red at apex. Spike to 7x9 cm, strongly mucilagenous. Receptacle 15 mm long. Bracts greenish, almost black at apex, mucronate. Flowers extended 2 cm above bracts. Fertile bract from +/- pale green to cream, apex brown. Bracteole cream, apex pink. Corolla pale red; lobes pale red, darker red at apex. Labellum pinkish, cream at base. filament pale reddish brown. Anther cream. Stigma white. Photographed. Material in spirit. DNA sampled.
