| Field notes | Terrestial herb in clump (to 12 cm between neighbouring leafy shoots). Leafy shoot to 4 m long. Base of leafy shoot to 6 cm diam., red. Sheath greenish brown. Ligule to 8 mm long, dark purple with callus at base. Lamina sessile, to 68 x 16.5 cm, mid-green, not plicate. Inflorescence from base of leafy shoot, to 2.55 m long, scales reddish to brown with age. Pedicel to 25 cm long, subterranean. Bracts pinkish to brown. Calyx pale pink at base-pale yellowish green towards apex. Corolla cream, lobes reddish, pale greenish brown near apex. Labellum white, red in centre, yellow-green patch on terminal lobe, pale red patch on lateral lobes. Stamen, anther crest, and stigma pale red. Fruit to 3 x 3.4 cm, white, subterranean.
