Field notes Terrestial herb to 1.6 m. 15-40 cm between neighbouring shoots. Base to 4 cm diam., orange-brown. Sheath yellowish green, glabrous. Ligule to 10 mm long, orange-brown. Lamina sessile, to 50-54x13-14 cm, mid-green; beneath pale green flushed pinkish brown when young. Inflorescence from rhizome, 12 cm long. Peduncle 6 cm long, subterranean, peduncular scales cream. Spike 5x6.5 cm. Bracts greenish brown, pale at base, acute, spreading. Sterile bract green, pale brown at base. Bracteole pale yellowish brown in lower 1/2, pale yellowish green in upper 1/2, apex brown. Calyx pale yellowish cream, brownish in upper 1/3, apex brown. Corolla cream, lobes pale yellow. Staminal tube short:+/- 2 mm, cream. Labellum yellow, terminal lobe +/- bilobed. Stamen cream with yellow tinge. Stigma pink. Taste: bitter. Photographed. Material in spirit. DNA sampled.
