| Field notes | Terrestial herb in loose clump (20-40) cm between neighbouring shoots). Leafy shoot to 5.5 m long, with up to 35 leaves. Base of leafy shoot to 5.5 cm diam., brownish. Sheath green, glabrous. Ligule 5 mm long, green. Petiole to 30 mm long. Lamina to 63 x 14 cm, narrowly ovate, base truncate to auriculate, mid-green above, beneath tinged +/- purple brown. Inflorescence from rhizome. Peduncle subterranean, ascending to erect, to 34 cm long; scales orange-brown. Young inflorescence spike 4 x 4 cm. Sterile bracts absent. Fertile bract similar to peduncular scales: orange-brown to greenish brown with purple at amrgin and apex, mucronate. Bracteole pale reddish brown. Calyx white with purple apex. Corolla white, lobes pruple in upper 1/3. Labellum cream tinged slightly pink at margin. Stamen cream. Stigma pale red. Infrutescence 12 x 7 cm. Fruit pedicellate to 5 mm, 2.5 x 2.5 cm, obovate, rounded, apex with hook-like spines, purple red. Material in spirit. DNA smapled. |
