| Field notes | Terrestial herb in clump of 4-6 shoots. Leafy shoot to 4.8 m long, with up to 26 leaves. Base of leafy shoot to 6 cm diam., brownish. Sheath brownish green, pubescent. Ligule +/- 1 cm long, dark brown. Petiole 2-5 cm long. Lamina 69 x 16 cm, pubescent below, especially in 2 lines of hairs along midrib; base oblique, cordate. Young leaf tinged reddish beneath. Inflorescence from base of leafy sghoot, ascending. Peduncle to 15 cm long. Spike 11 x 6 cm, bracts persistent. Corolla lobes red. Labellum white. Stamen cream. Stigma pale pink. Vernacular name: tu'is rueng (Minahassa, Sangir Language; rueng means clay pot refering to the shape of infl./infr.). Rhizome tastes like pine. Material in spirit. DNA smapled. |
