| Field notes | Terrestial herb in clump (c. 15 cm between neighbouring shoots). Leafy shoots to 4.5 m long. Base +/- subterranean, to 6 cm diam., brown. Sheath yellowish green. Ligule to 15 mm long. Lamina sessile, to 53 x 16 cm, plicate. Inflorescence terminal, pendulous, to 13 cm long. Bract pale green, flowers plain white, upside-down. Vernacular name: garatan (Solos language, coastal dialect, Buka; used for climbing, wrapping food to be cooked in soli oven). |
