| Field notes | Terrestial herb to 3 m tall. Leafy shoots in clump (4.5-11 cm between neighbouring shoots), to 3.3 m long. Sheath yellowish green. Ligule to 12 mm, entire, yellowish green. Petiole 8 mm long. Lamina to 60 x 16 cm, glaucous, slightly plicate. Inflorescence radical, to 22 cm long. Peduncle to 13 cm. Spike 9 x 3.5 cm, narrowly ovoid. Bracts red, lowermost cream in centre. Fertile bracts membranous, white a base, pale pink in upper 2/3. Calyx membranous, pale pink. Corolla tube white; red in exposed part above calyx; lobes pinkish red. Labellum pink, dark in upper half, margin white. Stamen and stigma white. Fruit 3 x 0.8 x 1.5 cm, cream. Material in spirit. DNA sampled. |
