Field notes Terrestial herb to 3.5 m. Rhizome short-creeping (to 10 cm between neighbouring shoots). Base to 4.5 cm diam., pale green when young. Sheath green. Ligule to 8 mm long. Lamina sessile, to 64 x 13 cm, mid.green, slightly plicate. Inflorescence terminal, erect. Spike t x 4 cm. Bract pale green. Flowers all white. Fruit globular, 16 x 19 mm, pale brown. Vernacular names: batan bunyu (Titan language; used for making ropes to climb coconuts or betel nut palms); metewih (Penchal language).
