Field notes Terrestial herb, to 4 m tall, in clump. Base to 7 cm diam. Ligule to 10 mm long. Petiole to 2 cm. Lamina to 85 x 21 cm, plicate, +/- pubescent beneath. Inflorescence terminal, bracts cream to pink. Ocasionally with side shoots from lower bracts. Vernacular name: kawua (Birau language, informant from Guadalcanal); rurupa (Bambatan language informed by Miori Sualalu from MW Choiseul).
