| Field notes | Terrestial herb to3.5 m tall, many shoots in a loose clump (5-10 cm between shoots). Base to 6 cm diam., subterranean, cream to green. Sheath mid-green to yellowish green. Ligule to 15 mm long, yellow-green. Lamina to 65 x 12 cm, mid-green, midrib yellowish cream, only slightly plicate, glabrous. Inflorescence terminal, pendulous. Bracts pale yellowish green. Calyx cream to pale yellow-green. Flowers white, cosistently upside-down (dorsal corolla lobe abaxial). Fruit cream. Vernacular name: marapui (Bauro language). Obseved at no higher than 500 m elevation. |
