Field notes Terrestrial herb to 3 m, in loose clump (leafy shoots 30-60 cm apart). Base of leafy shoot to 4.5 cm, green. Sheath plain to yellowish green. Ligule c. 1 cm, green, with white pubescence. Petiole c. 1.5 cm. Lamina to 60 x 15 cm, plicate. Inflorescence from base with 24-30 flowers. Bracts cream to pale greenish brown in upper part. Bracteal spike 7 x 4 cm. Flowers raised c. 2 cm above bracts. Corolla lobes red, dorsal lobe longer than stigma. Labellum 56-65 x 15 (near apex) mm, margin inrolled, red line in centre (forked at apex), yellow margin and apex, apex ± bilobed (to 5 mm). Filament pale red. Anther dark red. Stigma red. Vernacular name: borne-loh (Karen language). Cut base taste of fresh pine and aniseed. Deposited at: BKF, AAU, E, QBG. Material in spirit. Photographed. DNA sampled.
