| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 3.5 m. Rhizome long-creeping. Leafy shoot with up to 30 leaves. Base to 5.5 cm diam., pale brown. Sheath green. Lamina 85 x 19 cm. Young leaf tinged reddish beneath. Inflorescence from near base of leafy shoot with up to 30 flowers; 3-9 open at a time. Peduncle to 14 cm, bracts cream. Bracteal spike 8 x 3.5 cm, bracts cream; red in upper half, margin woolly. Fertile bracts white in lower half; pink in upper, margin woolly. Calyx 7 cm. Corolla cream at base, tube c. 57 mm, lobes red. Dorsal 28 x 9 mm. Labellum 55-57 x 20-22 (across apex) mm, red. Filament cream. Anther red. Stigma pale red, flexistylous. Infructescence with 13-22 fruits, to 6 x 9 cm. Fruit 2.5 x 3 cm, with some lateral ridges, pale red. Vernacular name: Mah Neng. Deposited at: BKF, AAU, E, QBG. Material in spirit. Photographed.
