Field notes Terrestrial herb 5-6 m. Rhizome long-creeping. Leaf base 9 cm across, pink when young, reticulate, pubescent. Sheath green, reticulate. Ligule 2.5 cm. Petiole to 5 cm, pubescent. Lamina 105 x 21 cm, base auriculate, pubescent below. Young leaf below tinged brown; purple near midrib below and in groove above. Inflorescence from the rhizome near base, 21 cm, with 20-24 flowers; 4-7 open at a time. Peduncle 10 cm; spike to 11 x 4 cm. Calyx pink. Corolla lobes pinkish red. Labellum Lip 7 x 2 cm, dark red in centre, margin orange red or bright yellow. Anther and stigma red. Young shoot tastes pleasant cabbage-like. Deposited at: BKF, E, PSU. DNA sampled. Material in alcohol (E00783 740 & 41).
