| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 4-5 m. Rhizome long-creepiong, scales reddisg. Base 6 cm, greenish brown. heath green, striate, cross-ribbed. Ligulee to 10 mm. Petiole to 35 mm. Lamina to 74 x 14 cm. Young leaf flushed red near margin. Inflorescence from rhizome near base, to 22 cm, with 1517 flowers. Spike 9 x 3.5 cm, peduncular scales cream to pale brown tinged red -especially at apex. Sterile bracts similar. Fertile bracts white, pubescent, apex reddish. Bracteole cream. Calyx pale pink. corolla lobe white, pink in upper 3 cm. Stigma pale pink. Taste and smell like aniseed and petrol. Deposited at: BKF, BK, E, AAU. DNA sampled. Spirit material E00783744. |
