| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 8 m. Rhizome long-creeping, 2.5-4 cm across. Scales brown. Base to 8 cm across. Sheath ± reticulate, yellowish green, ligule c. 1 cm, green. Lamina sessile to 80 x 19 cm - 100 x 21 cm, completely smooth. Inflorescence to 19 cm, with 22 flowers, from rhizome near base. Scales pale brown, darker at margin and apex. Spike c. 10 cm. Peduncle 4-9 cm. Fertile bract pale brown. Bracteole pale pink. Calyx pale pink with darker apex. Corolla lobes reddish pink. Filament white, hinge dark pink, anther pale pink, stigma pale pink. Labellum c. 6.5 cm, yellow center and red margin, apex deeply emarginate (15 mm). Infructescence to 10 cm across, subglobular, young fruit red, old emptied by rodent.
