Field notes Terrestrial herb, 2 m. Rhizome moderately (30-50 cm between shoots), exposed rhizome scales green, shiny. Base to ca. 5 cm diam., green, sheaths densely velvety-reticulate, especially at base, continuing to the top. Ligule 1.5-2.5 cm ±pubescent, petiole 2.5-4.5 cm, lamina to 70 by 16 cm, broadest above middle, plain green, pale below, glabrous except for midrib, midrib brown below. Inflorescence from rhizome near base. Peduncle 2,5,13 cm; spike 5-9 by 3-4 cm. Peduncular scales pale brown. Sterile bracts greenish brown, clearly distichous with raised, prominent, acute tip. Sterile bract membranous, translucent, pale pink. Bracteole, membranous, 3-tipped, brownish. Calyx membranous, tip dark pink. Corolla lobes, broad, darker pink towards apex. Labellum pink with a broad, bifid apex and lateral lobes covering the anther, margin irregularly plicate, pale pink. Anther sessile, hinged, red with a peculiar undulating dark red crest. Stigma dark red. Estimated more than 30 flowers per inflorescence. Vernacular name in Berawan language: túú. Material in spirit.
