| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 5 m, in loose clump. Base 6 cm across, brownish. Sheath yellow-green, reticulate, pubescent. Ligule to 8 cm, membranous, dehiscent. Petiole to 2 cm. Lamina to 82 by 19 cm, dull green, slightly plicate (ridged). Inflorescence from base, prostrate. Peduncle 26 cm, head 10 by 12 cm, bracts and corolla lobes orange-red. Bracts with conspicuous tips, also on fertile bracts (like a horn). Calyx with 3-filiform tip. Lateral petals shorter than dorsal - all are red. Labellum orange with yellow margin. Filament white, anther red, stigma dark purple. Infructescence globular, peduncle prostrate, head about 20 by 20 cm, central column extended, fruits red, beaked.
