| Field notes | Terrestrial herb, 3-4 m, in clump. Base 6 cm across, bright red, sheath also when young. Sheath higher up yellow-green with reddish blotches. Petiole to 2.5 cm: lamina to 70 by 13 cm, dark green, mid groove pale, below pale, margin undulating. Sterile. Vernacular name (Sunda language): hondje burem (last word means red, referring to the leaves). Shoot and fruit edible. Fruit informed to be green. Base tastes sour. Deposited at: BO, AAU. |
