| Field notes | Terrestial herb to 5 m, in clump. Base red, 9 cm diam. Sheath dark green, reticulate, pubescent. Ligule 2 cm, pubescent; petiole 4 cm; lamina to 95 by 28 cm, below red and pubescent; base auriculate to cuneate, +/- plicate. Inflorescence erect 50-90 cm, peduncular bracts red, drying blackish, pubescent; lower bracts on young inflorescence erect, spreading, reddish; tip yellow-green; inner bracts and calyces yellowish green. Petal lobes whitish-lateral yellowish green at tip; labellum purple red with white margin, stamen whitish, stigma red. Infrutescence globular, c. 12 cm diam., red, pubescent, aril red. Central axis of inflorescence extended at least 2 cm; central axis in infrutescence extended 4 cm. Open flowers observed 2 Mar. Photographed. Material also preserved in spirit. |
