| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 2.5 m. Rhizome long-creeping. Sheath roughly reticulate (small cushions), green. Ligule pubescent, yellowish green. Lamina plain green, velvety below, young leaves flushed reddish (inbroad bands). Inflorescence from ground, red, labellum bifid with a deep slit, and white center. Stamen and stigma pale red. Fruit subterranean, reddish, informed eaten by forest hens and monkeys. Inner shoot taste faintly bitter of pine. Vernacular name: tubu apò (Lun Dayeh): leaves used for thatching roof (atap rumah), inner shoot and fruit edible. Material in spirit. |
