| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 3.5 m, in loose clump (20 cm between shoots), slightly stilted. Base red, lacunate, sheath yellowish green blotched red. Ligule ca. 2 cm, yellow-green, petiole 3 cm. Lamina slightly ribbed with scattered hairs above; hairy below; margin wavy to undulating; base truncate to slightly cordate. Young inflorescence to 20 cm, ±erect from rhizome near the base. Bracts red with hairy margin. Dissected flower buds reveal a red calyx, yellow corolla, anther yellow with thin red line at crest, stigma pink. Taste sour slightly like E. elatior. Material in spirit. |
