| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 2 m, rhizome short-creeping (7–30 cm between shoots), 2 cm diam., olive-green, with circular scar. Raised on stilts 40 cm. Sheath greenish with reddish patches, shoot flattened. Ligule membranous, soon dehiscent. Lamina sessile, dull green, to 60 by 12 cm. Inflorescence from rhizome, erect, with 20 flowers. Bracts reddish brown. Calyx with pink filiform tips. Corolla lobes dark red. Labellum orange-red, lateral lobes with yellowish margin, enfolded; apex extended, erect. Stamen dark pink, stigma pale pink. Base tasteless going bitter. Vernacular name: tubu kerinang (kerinang Lun Dayeh language for 'raised' referring to the stilts). Material in spirit. |
