Field notes Terrestrial herb, 4 m, in loose clump. Base brownish, 5–6 cm. Sheath yellow-brown or yellow-green. Ligule green, 1.5 cm, margin hairy. Lamina ±sessile, slightly plicate, to 85 by 13 cm, broadest above the middle; hairy below, margin (0.5 mm) dark purple. Inflorescence from base, sessile, with ca. 16 flowers, 2–3 open at a time, basal bracts cream with faint pink; middle bracts with faint pink margin; top bracts dark pink. Petals red, labellum extended, yellow with red margins, margin not unfolded: looks unopen. Infructescence 5 cm diam., emptied by rodent. Fruit pale brown, with flat top and lateral soft-toothed protuberances. Vernacular name: tubu labo (Lun Dayeh). Material in spirit.
