| Field notes | Terrestrial herb, 3 m. Rhizome long-creeping, 1.5–2 cm across. Base 5–6 cm diam., ±reddish. Leafy shoot to 4.5 m, leafless 1.7 m, with 16–26 leaves. Sheath grey-green, pubescent. Ligule 2–2.5 cm, densely orange-brown-pubescent, reddish violet near top of shoot. Petiole < 2 cm. Lamina glabrous, plain green (not at all plicate), densely pubescent below, to 66 by 16 cm, broader above middle. Inflorescence from rhizome ear base, with about 45 flowers. Peduncle 7–10 cm; whole inflorescence to 20 cm. Bracts brownish, seem short-lasting. Corolla lobe dark reddish pink. Labellum pink, frilly, not really open, margin inrolled, with yellow center. Filament pale red with darker line, 2-3 mm. Anther dark red, stigma white. Taste sour like fresh beech leaves. Vernacular name: tubu telau (Lun Dayeh): fruit eaten by rats and mice. Material in spirit. |
