| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 4 m. Rhizome ±long-creeping. Base to 6 cm diam. Sheath plain green with red patches, going dark brown. Inflorescence from near base or rhizome. Bracts cream base to reddish brown apex. Flowers yellow, anther crest and stigma red. Taste strong sour and bitter. Vernacular name: layun (Lun Dayeh): sheath used for mats, central sheath and fruit edible. Informant says this has not been planted. |
