| Field notes | Terrestrial herb, 1.2-2 m, shoot to 1.7 m (rare case:2.5 m). Rhizome creeping: 30 cm between shoots. Base diam. to 2 cm, lower sheath very roughly reticulate, ligule pale yellow-green, to 2.5 cm. Lamina dull green, thick, slightly plicate; lower surface pale green, slightly tinged brownish near edge of young leaves. Inflorescence from base 7 to 12 cm, with 10-12 flowers. Lower peduncular bracts cream, sterile bracts maroon. Peduncle 3-5 cm. Flowers red, labellum scarlet to dark pink, no central line in yellow or white!. Stamen red. Stigma white.
