| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 4 m. Rhizome long-creeping, thin (1 cm). Base swollen to 4 cm diam, red. Sheath reddish to orange-brown at lower part – green at top. Ligule greenish, shiny-pubescent. Petiole 2–6 cm (longest at lowest leaves). Leaves slightly plicate, broader above the middle, to 56 by 10 cm, ±pubescent above, base asymmetrical. Inflorescence from rhizome. Peduncular bracts narrow, brown, calyx orange-red, corolla dark orange. Labellum dark orange, lateral lobes reflexed, yellow. Stamen dark orange, stigma shiny, red. Infructescence 4 by 5 cm. Fruit brownish, with soft teeth, 1.2 by 2.5 cm. Material in spirit. |
