| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 5.5 m, in loose clump. Leafy shoot leafless 2.5 m with 26 leaves. Lamina to 70 by 15 cm, dark green, midrib pale, purple below – especially when young. Peduncle 1 m. Globular head of infructescence pale yellow-green to 10 cm diam. Sour taste like E. elatior. Vernacular name: tubu sala (Kelabit): used like E. elatior (stem fruit & flowers eaten) but it is not cultivated. Material in spirit. |
