Field notes Terrestial herb to 7 m. Rhizome long-creeping. Inflorescence from base. Flowers yellow, anther crest orange or yellow. Stigma dark red. Vernacular names: tubu layun (Kelabit); tobo layun (Penan). Used for making mats, stem and fruit edible. Penans only eat the fruit. "Piop" eats the fruit, and "bata" (a bird) eats the nectar from the flower.
