| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 5 m, rhizome long-creeping, base 8 cm diam. Leafy shoot with 22 leaves, leafless lower 1.8 m. Lamina to 100 by 17 cm, broadest above the middle. Smell distinctly soapy, fennel-like, petiole to 4 cm. Inflorescence from base, bracts white to cream, 17–21 flowers per inflorescence. Calyx and petal lobes pale red. Labellum red with yellow margin (some plants completely orange-yellow with no yellow!). Anther red with darker purple front, stigma pale red. Material in spirit. |
