| Field notes | Terrestrial herb, 2–3 m in loose clump, sheath orange-brown, lamina purple below. Ligule bilobed, membranous, dehiscent. Inflorescence bracts pale, peduncle 3–15 cm, petals dark purple, almost black, lateral lobes of labellum red, central lobe rod-like, yellow with a red petaloid apex. Young fruits pale red. Taste sour, pine-like. B: leaves green with bright red margin, flowers as above, lateral lobes red. Material in spirit. |
