Identification qualifier  
Field notes "Terrestrial herb, 3-4 m, rhizome long-creeping, slender. Base 2-4 cm, green. Sheath green, leafless 2 m. 12-24 leaves per shoot. Ligule purplish or green; petiole 2 cm; lamina narrow, dark green, young leaves purple below. Inflorescence from rhizome. Peduncle 1-2 cm; bracts reddish to brown to red. 20-25 flowers per inflorescence. Base of bracteole pale red, petal lobes dark red, throat of labellum yellow, lateral lobes margin fringy, pale pink, with yellow bar at centre stopping 5 mm from apex, central lobe ±bilobed. Filament mm, dark red, anther hinged, dark red, stigma pale pink. Taste like sour pineapple, smells like bread or cake with spices. Vernacular name (in Iban language): kedebau. Deposited at: Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, SAR, AAU, L. Material also preserved in spirit. Photographed. cf. [=1940 from Lambir]"
