| Field notes | Terrestrial herb 2 m in clump of up to 5 shoots. Base reddish. Sheath pubescent, brownish green. Ligule bilobed, brownish. Lamina dark green, plicate with silvery indumentum below (that easily rubs off). Peduncle 40-60 cm, inflorescence c. 20 cm, filled with slimy liquid. Lower scales reddish with greenish brown tips turning bright red when fruiting. Fertile bracts cream to brownish green (exposed part). Flowers cream white. Seeds black. Taste numbing. Cut plant exudes gum. Deposited at: Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, SAR, AAU. Material also preserved in spirit. Photographed. |
